Key Takeaways
  • Check whether the machine came with the apartment before arranging any removal; many Dubai rentals include it in the inventory.
  • A washing machine that looks empty still holds water in the sump, pump filter and hoses, so drain it before it is tilted or moved.
  • Close both supply valves, cap or plug the drain point and keep the hoses with the machine if it is going to be reused.
  • A working, clean machine can be passed on; a leaking or failed one belongs in an appliance recycling route, not beside a communal bin.

How to dispose of a washing machine in Dubai

To dispose of a washing machine in Dubai, confirm it belongs to you, close the water supply, drain the residual water through the pump filter, disconnect and bag the hoses, then choose between reuse and a licensed appliance recycling route. Book removal around the building’s service-lift slot and never leave the unit in a corridor or bin room. Checked on 02/10/2026.

The step people skip is draining. A front loader that finished its last cycle weeks ago still carries water in the bottom of the tub, the pump housing and the drain hose. Tilt it onto a trolley and that water runs across the floor, into the lift and down the corridor—usually at the worst possible moment.

The second surprise is weight. Front-loading machines carry concrete or cast counterweights to stop them walking during the spin cycle, so even a compact model is a two-person lift. Planning the route out matters as much as the disconnection.

Run a final rinse-free check first
Open the door, remove any forgotten laundry, wipe the door seal and leave the door ajar for a day. A dry, odour-free drum makes the difference between a machine someone wants and one that has to be scrapped.

Check who owns the machine before it leaves

Many Dubai apartments are let with a washing machine already installed, and it is often listed on the move-in inventory alongside the cooker and refrigerator. Removing a landlord’s appliance—even a tired one—can turn into a deduction or a dispute at handover. Look at the inventory and ask the landlord or agent in writing before anything is disconnected.

If the landlord wants to replace a failed machine, agree who arranges the removal and whether the replacement goes in on the same day. Leaving a laundry space with open valves and no appliance can cause a leak if someone turns the wrong tap. The rental handover guide covers how to record those stay-or-remove decisions.

Owners and tenants who bought the machine themselves should keep the purchase details if they plan to sell it. A model number and age give a buyer far more confidence than a photo alone.

Drain the water before anyone tilts it

Switch the machine off at the socket, then close the cold supply valve behind it—and the hot valve if one is connected. Most front loaders have a small access panel at the lower front that hides the pump filter and, on many models, a short emergency drain tube. Lay towels down, put a shallow tray under the outlet and release the water slowly. Expect more than the tray holds; empty and repeat.

Once the flow stops, unscrew the filter, remove any coins, hair grips or lint, and refit it. Then lower the end of the drain hose into a bucket to let it empty. Top loaders and washer-dryers drain differently, so check the manual or the manufacturer’s website for the model number printed inside the door or on the back.

Leave the machine standing for an hour afterwards. A little more water often finds its way to the filter as the tub settles, and it is better caught on a towel than in a lift car.

Disconnect the hoses and secure the drum

Undo the inlet hose at the valve end first, keeping a cloth ready for the small amount trapped in it. Pull the drain hose out of the standpipe or sink trap and fit a cap or plug to the open waste point so drain odours cannot enter the flat. Bag both hoses and any washers and tape the bag to the top of the machine.

If you still have the transit bolts that came with the machine, refit them. They lock the drum against its suspension so it cannot swing and damage the springs or dampers during the move—important if the machine is going to a new owner. If the bolts are long gone, a reuse buyer should know the drum travelled unsecured.

Built-in machines behind a kitchen door, stacked washer-dryer towers and units connected to a fixed waste pipe may need a plumber or the original installer. Do not force a seized valve or cut a hose to get the machine free; a dripping valve left behind is the next tenant’s problem and possibly your deposit.

Decide between reuse and recycling

A machine is worth passing on when it fills, heats, drains and spins without error codes, the door seal is intact and the drum is clean. Run one empty short cycle before listing it so you can describe it honestly. A buyer or charity will ask about leaks, noise and age; vague answers usually mean the collection never happens.

Recycling is the right route for a machine that leaks, trips the electrics, shows a recurring fault or has a cracked drum or perished seal. Washing machines contain a steel cabinet, a stainless drum, a motor with copper windings, a circuit board and the counterweight, so they should go to a facility that handles electrical appliances. The appliance donation and recycling guide explains how those two routes differ.

A washer-dryer with a heat-pump dryer section is different from a standard condenser model, because heat-pump units contain a sealed refrigerant circuit. Treat that type with the same caution as a refrigerator—our fridge and AC disposal guide explains why the circuit must not be punctured.

Move it out without damaging the building

Clear a path from the laundry space to the door and measure the narrowest point, including any kitchen island or shoe cabinet near the entrance. Use a strapped appliance trolley rather than walking the machine on its corners, which can crack tiles and damage the feet. Keep it upright throughout so any water you missed stays inside.

In Jumeirah Lake Towers, most residential towers expect large appliances to go through a booked service lift with protection on the walls. Ask security whether a move-out or removal permit is required for a single appliance and which hours apply, then book the crew inside that window.

Townhouses and villas in Al Furjan are usually easier for access, but laundry rooms are often at the back of the house or on an upper floor. Plan the carry route through the house rather than assuming the machine will leave through the nearest door.

Arrange collection with the right details

Send a photo of the machine in place, a photo of the label inside the door, and say whether it is working, drained and disconnected. Mention the floor, the lift booking and any stairs. If it is part of a larger clear-out, list any other wet appliances—such as an old dishwasher—so they can be drained and separated for the right destination on one visit.

Our appliance removal service collects drained and disconnected washing machines and routes them for reuse or recycling. When the washer leaves with a bed frame, desk or other awkward items, the bulky item removal service can quote the whole load together.

Message us the photos and access details and we will confirm a fixed price, plus anything that should be sorted out—such as a seized valve—before the crew arrives.
